First Orthoimage Server

Spacemetric developed a Web Map Server (WMS) for the European Space Agency’s Multi-Mission Catalogue (MUIS) for satellite imagery. The server was developed in a contract won in stiff competition.  

The Web Map Server (WMS) interface allowed searches of ESA’s catalogue from a standard Web browser and displayed geocoded browse images in a range of map projections. Accurate geocoding of browse products is supported for a wide range of both optical and radar sensors including Envisat ASAR, MERIS and AATSR, and the ERS satellites, plus other imagery acquired by ESA ground stations such as Landsat, NOAA AVHRR, SeaWifs and Terra MODIS. 

Specific requirements were placed on high-quality geometric correction and mosaicing of satellite browses. This process has profited significantly from Spacemetric’s expertise in rigorous satellite photogrammetric techniques.
