Onboard FPGA Image Processing for Analytics-Ready Data

Spacemetric is collaborating with partners to further streamline high-precision onboard satellite image processing that prepares data for analytics and AI applications.

Key elements of advanced algorithms for satellite imagery are already hosted on the Bluestone platform for CPU architectures. In the FLASH project key processes are being ported to FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) to reduce power requirements while enhancing performance. The FPGA processes for Bluestone are to be launched on a demonstrator satellite with an optical imager payload in 2025.

The project is co-financed by the Swedish National Space Agency’s space applications programme and aims to expand the applicability of the Bluestone technology across popular satellite onboard computing hardware.
