Spacemetric and EASP Air Support Frontex Mission

The Dutch NL EASP Air provides airborne Maritime Surveillance and ISR “as a service” to FRONTEX and the UK Government. NL EASP Air has a 4-year service contract for FRONTEX, to provide airborne survey services over the Mediterranean Sea and has recently signed international teaming agreements to strengthen their capabilities for FRONTEX and UK Border Force surveillance missions. Spacemetric provides sensor data storage and distribution capabilities for operational systems to EASP Air.

In August, NL EASP Air supported the Indalo 2017 mission within the FRONTEX contract. A Dornier 328 special mission aircraft conducted airborne survey missions, generating maritime surveillance data. The data transmission and intel fusion processes were supported by an off-the-shelf version of Spacemetric’s Keystone software, providing a turnkey maritime surveillance solution platform comprising mission prediction, data analysis and data fusion. EASP Air flew its special mission aircraft, supporting operations countering illegal migration, drugs trafficking and illegal fishing. Three examples of successful contributions are covered by the Spanish Maritime Rescue organization Salvamento Marítimo in its tweets on 8th23rd and 27th August.

Real-time maritime surveillance data was received via satellite link from the special mission aircraft. The sensor data was stored in the Keystone server and distributed to multiple remote users of the real-time data. The live data was presented in a client application (Keystone NL EASP Air Dashboard) providing situational awareness (see image to the right) in support of mission coordination. Plans for enhancement of the data storage and distribution service include integration with other data sources such as AIS.

NL EASP Air and Spacemetric will participate in the DSEi Defence & Security Event in London, 12-15 September 2017. Schedule an appointment by contacting Bob Moll, +31 6 1073 2984, bm@spacemetric.com.
